The most important role of the Premier of the SCC is to promptly, without hesitation and with no sign of recalcitrance, convey the up to date information for which every comrade relies. Consequently, it is almost thirteen weeks ago that our end of season drinks and awards were held. Without any diversion, I have penned this summary for you all and I think you will agree, with not a hint of delay.
Basking in the light of a humongous lack editorial censorship, I can write that I fecking love the SCC. The awards at the end of a full and exhausting season are a great chance to be amongst comrades and
friends: talk testicles, dream of a distant land of summer sun, dusty wickets, hat-tricks, maidens, tons and half-centuries (although I have no idea what the latter two feel like – I imagine it’s something like a paroxysm of emotion)
A very large number of us gathered in the upstairs dining room of The Lyric Soho, Thursday 17th November 2022. Outstanding food and fizz was made readily available and much merriment. However, the rickety old chair of responsibility beaconed and I tottered to mount it, this happens a lot these days. Who were the lucky recipients of this night’s awards? The list is here:
2022 Soho Cricket Collective awards
- Most Runs scored: Malikovich (Malik Suleman)
- Season’s Wicket Keeping Merit: Kam (Kamran)
- Most Wickets: Malikovich
- Captaincy: Yankheroff (John Hirst)
- Best All-Rounder: Dacha (Dan Woodhouse)
- Most improved: Robin
The 2022 Comrades’ Comrade award
The Cobramovich Samovar winner:
Malik Suleman – Malikovich
The voting was quite emphatic this year, and based on his outstanding efforts with the bat, his command of the ball, and a determination to turn up smiling – Malikovich was the clear winner! All comrades were delighted with the result and the previous holder, Dan March, was more than happy to pass on the responsibility of ownership – with one less handle.
Malik really did have a terrific season and has been a great source of inspiration and a target for individual achievement for us all. He will shoulder the responsibility of the award with great aplomb! Huzzah!!!!
