Friday 13th lives up to its rep!

Friday Weather

Comrades! It is with great, socialist miz-oggness that we must forget this Friday’s fixture.

Friday 13th is typically unlucky (although not generally for us) and it has struck the SCC down hard. First Quantel couldn’t use their ground and now not only can I not find one to hire but the forecast for Friday is utterly poop! The days before will not help the ground either 🙁

But let me take this opportunity, comrades, to urge you to LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN…

  1. Friday 27th July 2012 commencing at 17:30, SCC v  Breath of Life 20-20: Let us know.
  2. Monday 6th August 2012 afternoon evening, LCC v SCC, Sussex. Beautiful village, beautiful game. Let us know.
  3. Sunday 12th August 2012 afternoon evening, RCC v SCC: Book your Ticket To Ryde and let me know if you are available!
Ryde is actually the most key one for you to arrange now as you will need to book camping/hotel and ferry too. SO GET ON IT. But please confirm if you can play NOW!
Thank you all comrades!

Quantel Fixture Disaster!!!

UmpHump

Comrades all,

It is with great regret that I must inform you that our fave fixture is off – or at least – CHANGED BEYOND ALL RECOGNITION.

Quantel sadly have battled with the ground and now have a back log of fixtures – this means that Duffer fixtures get dropped. That’s us and others by the way. It’s not Rogg’s fault but it’s life.

So… uh… what are we going to do?

The board of commissars, under high pressure from myself, Premier Yuri Pedeez, feel we should do something on that date or the next day, the Saturday. This could be:

  • Convince Quantel to play in Regent’s Park or similar (But their team may not be available)
  • Have a 20/20 with another team – VCC re-match?
  • Field Practice game:
    • A full team turn-out
    • Each batsman stays in (whether out or not) for 3-4 overs
    • He can make runs with opposing batsman, but they return to ground
    • Wickets, catches, stumping count against him
    • Full fielding side, bowlers taken some-how from a pool.

So comrades, Please let us know if you want to do? – A Friday or Saturday on Friday 13th July or Saturday 14th.

Comrades one and all! This will not be a blow by lowaccount of the matches played on this glorious day, more a general round up of the good feeling and fun we all had.. I say weall had, but there was only five of us and we were meant to be at least seven. Very hard to drum up support for a mid week, pay go event. But it was for charity, comrades and we had so much cricket. Next year, support it more, please!

There were four teams and we each played four games, once each, top two and bottom two. I shall be straight up and say that we kissed each game. No recriminations but they were all quite good and we lost a couple of golden opportunities. Our team was Oli, Rob, Phil, brother Tim, Andrew and then two helpers from the minuscule celebryea team: John Altman (of eastenders fame!) and Glynn. The latter was an excellent all rounder and especially with the bat.

All games were split between a delicious lunch and tea and played beneath a screaming hot sun, the hottest day we had had this year until then. Very rosy we were, especially when awarded the singing Peppa Pig for last place. And comrades, the bloody pig is our mascot until we win a game. From which event we take the pig and a bottle of bubbles into the field and successively bat the flaming thing into the rough. Then set light to it, drink champagne and send its battered body into the bushes.

I shall upload the scorecards but I am not in a rush as it does not really count as a proper game but a fun league day where we played for charity. Great day though, comrades. Lots of cricket and lots of fun. Next year, eh?
