Match Report : SCC v BOLCC Friday 26th July 2013

SCC v BOLCC
SCC v BOLCC

20/20 overs, 3 overs/bowler
BOLCC win by 33 runs
SCC scoring 110

There is nothing like a sunny evening and a game of friendly cricket. It is the tonic and gin, the Bush and the bull, the tickle and slap. Vast quantities of effort get everyone there, feed them, ferry them, play them and say goodbye to them but it is worth every ounce or milli-gramme of strain. Partners, wives and singles -PAWS – were also much in attendance as well a decent grubby shorts of children.

SCC win the toss and I threw us into the field. I am still not sure why i did that as it was a fixed over match of course and it was hot… But there you go. My vice was Brandonovski and between us we set out to field the oppo into the ground.

Alexander and Rob walk out and the bowling attack opened with Yuri and Soldya. The latter got Rob LBW for 11 and both bowlers were swapped out regularly as each player must bowl at least one over. The only other wicket was a runout for 2 of Jamie R off Robski. The retire n/o at 25 rule meant that the BOLCC got a good turnover although some retired due to fatigue from being quite young.

The end of the innings resulted in 143 for 2. We all had a breather and nervous of the light were back out as soon as Brandonovski and I arranged the order. Openers were Vladimir Boringski and Yankeroff. Vlad gave way to Diloffsky, founder player for the SCC. Yankeroff and he got 26 and 20 respectively and massive respect to Yankeroff for what goes down as a classic SCC true blood knock.

Sewelski and Brandonovski produced truly noteworthy scores of 11 and 13 and top hats off to both of them for doing so. Sewelski splendidly swishing his and Brandonovski also popping the odd dotty moment in too. Nice work.

But with the rest of our comrades producing less than 10 we were never going to hit the run rate. As the sun set over the horizon, we still had play going on and all was finished at 20 overs with 110 our score.

So congratulations to the Breath Of Life Cricket Club who won effectively and in good spirit. I like to think we lost gloriously too and hats off all round to the comrades. This fixture is great and we shall tinker with the rules next year. We have to have children on both sides or none, preferably the former although mine will be only one, so we must look elsewhere!!!

The food was fabulous and love to the chefs! Thank you to the generous scorer who scored both innings, and thanks to all those who did anything to make this event great… And those brilliant PAWS, including my top, pregnant wifey… Kathryn of Barnskeyev the First.

Nets – MASSIVE WINTER TURNOUT

Yuri Beholds Matrix
Yuri Beholds Matrix

Comrades! I stand before you, whilst being sat at my computer, astonished by last week’s turnout at the nets. And the weather, comrades in willow, was far from seasonal. The cold wind that snapped up about our Urals was as bitter as the draft from an Eskimo’s freezer door. More frigid and damp air could not be found in a nun’s pond. I promise there shall be no more similes  Which is a believable as squirrel with three nuts. But it was COLD!

We had an amazing turnout: Ilyeva, Brandonovski, Soldya, Altmananov, Boringski, Samovar and myself, Yuri. Two nets, the side-arm and a suitable amount of kit to keep the frequency of batting practice up. Ilyeva has taken quite a shine to this weapon of bowling and after an hour was getting the ball down the end of the wicket at an alarming pace and thankfully, accurate too. This little device has truly helped us to build on our batting skills.

We were deploying the three hits and swap method so there were nearly always 3 or 4 bats padded up and swapping out after a run of three balls. It works well and also provides a bit of running. Keeps the eyes hungry too as you never get long enough to just smack the balls away. I was lucky enough to return to my first bat which I didn’t use all last year for fear of its weight and grandeur. Fool was I, for this nets it came upon me as an epiphany and I shall hence forth use her wisely!

More nets this week of course and if we get the same turn-out I shall be amazed. But without doubt the turnout was fantastic and I have included a photograph of the usual suspects below. We cannot stress enough, comrades; The nets are completely open. If you ever played and are embarrassed to come back or if you never played and think you will know nobody there – it does not matter. We are all comrades together and it would be lovely to see you all at the nets. Please make it along as it will really help our game and your selection!

Match Report: Ryde CC v SCC 12th August 2012

Pete Tully smacks it hard

RCC win by 96 making 174 runs
SCC all out for 78
40 over match

Ryde CC is nestled in the woods just south of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. A beautiful place, a stunning ground, gorgeous weather and bloody difficult to get the team together! I think the ferry cost is a big part but comrades, what a match it makes.

There was a little camping festival nearby at Carpenter’s Farm, Chipmonkski, Brandonovski, Yuri, Antonov, Ilyeva and Robski, associated family and loved ones, cars, vans and too much food. So, come Sunday the team gurgled into fine tempered form. Joining us were captain Cobramovich, Jontin, Davidof Hooperski and Petrov Tully of the Xiles and one of our founder members, Dil Dhillon.

Into battle. Captain Cobramovich put us to bat. Openers for us were Davidof and Brandonovski. Slow and steady was the word of the day and both had the right idea. Brandonovski was the first down. A valiant dozen dots on the sheet before being bowled by Stevens. Antonov strolls in, newly returned to the fold after a shocking bicycle fall, nearly blinded by a granny basket. His half dozen dots helped us along but he was soon out again by Stevens, again for 0.

Comrade commissar Treasurer Ilyeva was in. And out for 0. But there was controversy over his stumping? The bail had fallen but twice that day we had to speak with the umpires as the bails were badly placed. So not sure about how Ilyeva was taken. Windy out there.

Captain Cobramovich… A white silken figure slides into the crease opposite Davidof. By now the latter has knocked up 9 until bowled Hackett. Cobramovich now settling in is joined by Chipmonkski. Can this partnership halt the utter collapse. Can the nibbling talent fight it out. Sadly not. Chipmonkski nobbled for 0. The feeling of sliding down a greased slope of ice, butt naked and oiled up to the maximum is something we are all aware of and felt as slippery and predictably the SCC outcome as a nine month sentence for Gerbil abuser. But wait, Robski is in.

He and Cobramovich have some fun and stall the RCC’s onslaught. Captain C finally caught behind for 14. But Robski was kept company by Yuri. 3 runs scored by him and a number of dots. Robski out for 6 off Taylor. Arrive Petrov. Boy, keen was he for the making of runs. When Yuri headed in he was passed by a defiant Jontin. These two, Petrov and Jontin then set about some ball smackery. Petrov taking 19 until LBW Shipley. Dil was briefly in before Jontin was bowled for 21.

In the field we work. Good job because the team of youngsters that RCC fielded were county colts and keen to belt the ball all over the pitch. Bowling openers were Petrov and Yuri. The former bowling 10 overs for 23, and 2 maidens AND 3 wickets. Good work comrade. Yuri bowling 9 for 38 and a wicket catch by Robski.

Chipmonkski had a tidy bowl nibbling 7 overs for for 33. Great accuracy and useful numbers. Cobramovich fed their desire to smack and generated a lovely and useful wicket. Antonov, despite only bowling 1.3 overs took two wickets, one bowled and caught. His chest deflection was particularly spectacular.

David Hooper at rest

Ilyeva ran a marvellous match, saving and returning some vital balls. Robski was fab in wicket and now becoming quite adept. Jontin pouched a beauty of a catch. Davidof made some good deep field defence. Brandonovski, despite a calf injury, valiantly fought on. Dil… A fine figure on his home ground and a good arm to boot.

That night, after a loss, we won with barbecue and beer and a closing ceremony for the Olympics too. Thank you, comrades. Vive la revolution.
